Railway rails are made of high-strength carbon steel. In addition to the chemical composition of the steel strength is influenced by its micro and macrostructure. GOST 7174-85 sets the range on hardened rails type R50.
GOST 7173-54 regulates the production of rails type P43, used for industrial purposes.
The standard rail length is 12.5; 25; 50 and 100 meters. The length of the rails for the so-called” velvet ” track is from 400 meters or more. Reducing the number of inter-rail joints can significantly reduce steel costs-about 4 tons per 1 kilometer.
